Face Mask Mandate for Vaccinated People

The California Department of Public Health has provided guidance on who is required to wear a face mask. As of November 2020, the California face mask guidance stated individuals who are vaccinated are not required to wear a face masks in outdoor setting except when around another household. For unvaccinated individuals, face coverings are required outdoors any time physical distancing cannot be maintained. However, in an indoor setting both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals are required to wear a face mask when outside of one’s home.

Earlier this month, California announced that on June 15th the face mask mandate may be lifted for vaccinated individuals in both outdoor and indoor settings. The U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new available evidence that demonstrated its safe for fully vaccinated individuals to not wear face masks in most places. The CDC’s information was released only as a recommendation.

The possible new face mask mandate will still be largely decided by the state and local governments coming June 15.
